Forest River Rockwood Roo 233S

5 Amazing Hybrid Trailers That Come With Slide Outs 1

MSRP: $39,076*

Why We Love This:

Forest River’s Rockwood Roo expandable travel trailer series offers eight floor plans for customers to choose from. The Rockwood Roo 233S is the only offering that has three tent-like pop outs, a convertible sofa, and a slide out with a U-shaped dinette capable of converting to a bed. All three pop outs have heated mattresses, perfect for when the sun drops below the horizon.  With a dry weight of 5,063 lbs. and a cargo carrying capacity of 1,645 lbs., this camper is a workhorse equipped to accommodate you and nine guests.  It can hold 58 gallons of fresh water and has the integrated Water Miser system, which conserves fresh water while you are waiting for your shower to warm up.  This water conservation system is ideal for those who enjoy boondocking.  Extensive storage available throughout the interior and exterior of the trailer will accommodate all of the gear you and your guests need for your camping adventure.

What We Didn’t Like:

Set-up and tear down takes a little longer due to the number of pop outs and the slide out.   However, if you put to work all those extra set of hands that are traveling with you, you’ll be done in no time.

Who This Is For:

With a sleeping capacity of up to 10 people, this trailer is a winner for large families or those wanting to invite friends along for some fun.

Jayco Jay Feather X23B

Jayco Feather x23B

Image complements of Jayco RV

MSRP: $31,447*

Why We Love This:

Coming in with a dry weight of 4,380 lbs., this is the lightest of our 5 amazing hybrids, but don’t let that fool you.  This trailer is fully equipped to host up to 8 people comfortably.  It has 2 tent-like pop outs, 1 slide out sofa, and a U-shaped dinette. The modern farmhouse design is on trend with today’s interior design styles.  The kitchen is fully appointed with a microwave, 3 burner stove top with LED lighting, oven, and generous storage in the cabinets and pantry.  This trailer only is 5” shorter than our heaviest model featured, the Rockwood Roo 23FK.   It’s big on space and light on weight.  This Jayco Jay Feather X23B will float down the highway.

What We Didn’t Like:

The U-shaped dinette provides extra elbowroom at the table, however its location at the end of the trailer is inconvenient for those sleeping in the pop out and in the dinette when it’s converted.

Who This Is For:

This featherweight hybrid travel trailer is perfect for those who are planning to use a lighter towing vehicle.

Keystone Bullet Crossfire 2190EX

Bullet Crossfire 2190EX

Image complements of Keystone RV

MSRP: $28,684*

Why We Love This:

With an MSRP of $28,684, the Keystone Bullet Crossfire 2190EX is the least expensive of our featured trailers.  It may be the lowest priced on our list, but that doesn’t mean it lacks in features.  It’s 3 pop outs, slide out with U-shaped dinette, and fold down sofa can accommodate up to 10 people comfortably.  It’s 500lbs lighter than the Rockwood Roo 233S, which has the same sleeping capacity.  In addition, the Crossfire 2190EX is the only trailer on our list that has a bathtub, perfect for soaking aching feet after a day of hiking, washing young kids, or muddy pets.

What We Didn’t Like:

We wish the awning of the Crossfire 2190EX had a longer extension.  The awning extends just 15’ down the side of the camper, leaving the window above the sofa exposed to full sun.

Who This Is For:

This camper is perfect for large families looking for a budget friendly option.

Forest River Rockwood Roo 23FK

Forest River ROO 23FK

MSRP: $34,710*

Why We Love This:

The heaviest of our featured travel trailers, this 5,528 lb hybrid is packed with bells and whistles.  The 23FK is equipped with 2 pop outs, 1 slide out with a standard, convertible dinette, and a convertible sofa, all of which add up to space for 8 people.  An entertainment center, complete with electric fireplace and wall mounted LED television, is conveniently located directly in front of the sofa area. The FK in the Roo’s numbering system denotes the front kitchen, and it does not disappoint.  Traveling chefs will find an under mount stainless steel sink, a solid surface countertop, and a large 22 inch oven. Like its sister, the Rockwood Roo 233S, the Forest River Rockwood Roo 23FK has the integrated Water Miser system that sends unused fresh water back to the holding tank while you are waiting for your shower to warm up.

What We Didn’t Like:

With the weight exceeding 5,500lbs, the Rockwood Roo 23FK is edging into camper weights normally seen in larger toy haulers.  This may discourage customers seeking the advantages of a lightweight hybrid.

Who This Is For:

This hybrid is for families who are looking for a trailer that has all of the conveniences of a home away from home.

Flagstaff Shamrock 235S

Flagstaff Shamrock 235S

Complements of Forest River RV Inc

MSRP: $36,655*

Why We Love This:

This trailer is packed with luxurious amenities inside and out:  think heated, theater seating, an electric fireplace, and a 43” LED television.  This trailer is equipped with 2 pop outs with heated mattresses and one large slide out that encompasses a standard, convertible dinette and a convertible sofa.  Shoppers can upgrade the sofa to heated, theater seating.  The Shamrock 235S can accommodate up to 8 people.  The kitchen has a stainless steel sink, solid surface countertops, microwave, and a large oven.  It also features a second, outdoor kitchen equipped with a gas griddle, 2-burner grill, refrigerator, and spice cabinet.  The trailer has a Water Pur filtration system.  The Shamrock 235S also has ample storage throughout.

What We Didn’t Like:

Like all hybrids, condensation inside the cabin, particularly in the sleeping areas, is a concern.  Owners need to be conscientious about wiping down surfaces and making sure that everything is dry prior to storing the trailer.

Who This Is For:

This trailer is ideal for those wanting a “glamping” experience in the great outdoors.
